19-5-2007 Field TripYesterday, we went to London again and visited Victoria Museum, History Museum, Hyde Park, Baker Street and Kensington Palace. It was such a tiring journey as we were walking all the time, but we really enjoyed ourselves. See, In the afternoon, we sat outside one of the cafes down the street, drinking coffee and watching people passing through. It was a nice afternoon, with the sun shining and wind breezing. We were so indulged that we'd almost miss the coach back to castle. At last, in order to catch the bus, we decided to take a tube. How shocked we were when we were told by a nice policeman, with gentle voice and polite smile on his face, that it would cost us £4 each to take a subway, only for three stops! Otherwise, it would cost us more than £20 to stay overnight. Godness! But, at the moment, we had no choice. I still remember clearly the unbelieveable look on the ticket conductor and my trembling fingers when I handed the money to him. Anyway, thanks god, we caught the bus on time at last.
Tomorrow, we'll have another trip to Greenwich Observatiory Center. So cool! Hopefully, we'll not miss the coach again. 16-5-2007 Busy daysLast weekend, we went to London twice. May 11th, it was the first time we went to London. Amazing! We visited the British Museum, saw millions of masterpieces, treaures from all over the world. It was so fantastic! There, we witnessed the envolution and civilization of human beings, we experienced the culture of different continands and we also appreciated the wisdom and creativity of ancient people as well. There, we found a lot of painters, little girls and boys, and were totally indulged in the anthrologic atmosphere. In the afternoon, we headed to the guarded Downing Street, the famous Big Ben, the maganificent London Eye and the antique Trafalgar Squre. Unfortunately, because of time limitation, we just had a quick view of all the sightseedings. It was really a magic trip, though. Surrounded by those ancient architectures, I was totally lost, still considering whether I am in a fairy tale or not. Actually, I also took thousands of pictures. But! I don't know why all the pictures had gone! What a tragety! I hate my camera! My pictures! The one I cherish most is the picture I took with the safeguard riding on a huge black horse, with a sherry British hat on his head, outside the downing street! Misterious me~~
The next day we had a tour to Shakespear Globe Theatre and watched Othello. It rained heavily and was so cold that day. and we had to stand in the rain for 3 hours to watch the play. But the play is pretty good! And I love the theatre so much because, you know, it is the theatre where the movie Shakspeare In Love is filmed! Awsome!
As to my leisure time, unfortunately, it was entirely occupied by the homework in marketing courses.
Luckily, at last I finished my individual paper of organizational marketing course. Although it took me more than 1 week to think about it. But there are still quite a lot of homework waiting for me. Sucks! I should handle them more efficiently, I guess.
Ok. That's for today. Miss all of you~~ 9-5-2007 Planning for Chinese EveTonight, we Fudan students gathered together talking about the preparation of our Chinese Eve. We had so many creative ideas that I'm eagerly looking forward to the night. Another reason is that I'll have my traditional Chineses dress on that night. Awlsome! But now I'm a little bit worried about whether I can try it on. Because, you know, I ate so much these days! --b 8-5-2007 Tours to Brighton and the coursesYesterday, we had a tour to Brighton, an ancient city near sea. It's really amazing to see so many wonderful things, say, seabirds, funfair, chips&fishes, exotic architectures and cute little girls and boys. Besides, we also visited University of Sussex, and a somewhat so-called cliff. Also very impressive of course. In the afternoon, we had sandwiches made by ourselves. It's really interesting to make it.Actually it is something like 'zaliangbing' in Chinese. Yeah! We really had a lot of fun there. And in the morning, I also made a self-guided forrest-exploration tour. When I went through the forrest, in fact, since it was getting darker and darder I was a little bit scared to some extent, however, findally, here I am, coming back safe and sound.
The new semester started today. The international marketing course, I'd like to say, is something similar to IMC. The arthistory course, is interesting but the words used in the course are a little bit too professional. But it's not big deal. I can handle that. Besides, I also took European Integration, it's a little bit difficult, but I'll try my best to catch up with others. We went to pub tonight and played pool with some of the boys, they taught us a lot about the rules and the skills, we really had a good time there. One thing I'd like to mention that is today, I got some fantastic books, and it only cost £2 for each! How happy I was!
Now I am worrying about my courses in Fudan, the assignments are really a heavy burden to me, I admit. But it's also a good opportunity for me to arrange my time more efficiently.
6-5-2007 Tours of the castleEventually, the foreign students showed up! They flooded in and English is heard everywhere then. It's really amazing to be the minorities here, with so many white-colored people around us. My roommate is a Canadian who owns a farm in Kingston, where there are cows, ducks, chickens, etc. So cool! How I wish to own one myself!
Today, we had some tours of the Herstmonceux Castle, a castle with a history of more than 900 years. The castle, the garden, the animals, the food, the people, really impressed me.
THE CASTLE
At the first sight of the castle, I could hardly make out whether it's a dream or not. May it be the modern Hogwarts?
If it is a dream, I hope it would never end.
THE GARDEN
There is a garden behind the castle, with fresh air and quite a lot of fantastic green plants. And the sky is blue, the cloud is white, the wind is breezing and the sun is shining. Here, you can forget everything but just relax and enjoy your time. There are also quite a lot of animals here, rabbits, ducks, dogs, really cute animals, not afraid of human beings.
THE FOOD
All the meals are self-serviced. Crossants, breads, cookies, candies, nuts, crops, Italian noodles, yogurts, juices, ice-creams, beefs, porks, fishes, chips, fruits, salads~~so many temptations that I could hardly resist any of them! What I could only do is as what I told to myself, forget about the shape and enjoy the food!
THE PEOPLE
The faculties and the staff are really nice guys. They tried their best to answer our questions and solve our problems. They even go to the pub with us! So cool!
Before the new semester begins on next Monday, life is so enjoyable here. But after the new term, I know that there should be a lot to catch up with. As the old saying goes, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy; and all play and no work makes Jack a null boy. *^^* 4-5-2007 The longest day in my lifeGetting up at 6 (Chinese time) in the morning, spending 4 hours at the airport, 13 hours on the plane, 2 hours on the minibus, 3 hours in the dormitary, and going to sleep at 8 (Chinese time, 1 o'clock British time)- 26 hours a day-can you imagine?!
May 3rd, I'll remember this day forever in my life because it is the first time that I took such a long-distance journey from home to a brandnew environment. It is also the first time for me to leave home for as much as 6 weeks-I have not been away from home for more than 2 weeks ever before!
Up till this morning,to me, there is still no big difference between China and UK because most of the foreign students haven't come yet and all the people I've contacted with are Chinese. But what will happen later? Wait and see.
